Equipment

  • 1 Pan

Ingredients

  • 4-5 green onions about 50g, diagonally cut and separated into white and green parts
  • 1 block firm tofu 350–400g
  • 1.5 tbsp neutral oil

Sauce

  • 1.5 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1.5 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 2 tsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup water

Instructions

  • Prepare the green onions by cutting them diagonally. Separate the white parts from the green parts. Use a spoon to cut the firm tofu into bite-sized pieces.
  • In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, cornstarch, and water.
  • Heat a nonstick pan over medium heat. Add neutral oil. Add the tofu and pan-fry until both sides are golden, about 4–5 minutes per side.
  • Make space in the pan and add the white parts of the green onion. Stir-fry for 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Stir the sauce again before adding it to the pan, as the cornstarch may settle at the bottom. Pour in the sauce and simmer for 2–3 minutes, until it becomes thick and glossy.
  • Toss in the green parts of the green onion. Serve hot with rice.

Notes

Vegan option: make it vegan by replacing the oyster sauce with vegetarian oyster sauce, which is usually mushroom-based, or by using extra soy sauce with a little bit of sugar.
